General Description / Objective

The Grow Yard General Laborer supports daily feedyard operations by assisting with animal care, feed delivery, equipment operation, and facility maintenance. This hands-on role plays a key part in ensuring the health, safety, and comfort of the animals, while contributing to the overall efficiency of the grow yard. The position reports directly to the Grow Yard Manager and follows all safety, animal welfare, and operational protocols.
This team member is expected to contribute to Friona’s Safety First culture by performing work safely, reporting concerns, and participating in training. The ideal candidate is dependable, works well in a team, and is willing to learn and grow within feedyard operations.

Roles and Tasks

Assist with daily cattle care including moving cattle, checking pens, and observing for signs of illness or injury
Follow direction for administering animal treatments as instructed by animal health staff
Deliver feed and water to pens using equipment as trained
Maintain cleanliness and condition of pens, bunks, water tanks, and equipment
Assist with fence repair, pen maintenance, and facility upkeep as needed
Operate tractors, feed trucks, and other equipment safely (training provided)
Follow animal welfare and low-stress handling protocols
Support team members and supervisors in executing daily operational plans
Communicate issues or concerns to the Grow Yard Manager or supervisor promptly
Adhere to safety procedures and wear proper PPE at all times
Assist during cattle receiving, processing, or shipping as needed
Complete other duties as assigned by management
Follow nutritional and veterinary guidelines to ensure compliance with animal health and welfare requirements
Ensure security of all assets including land, livestock and inventories
Adhere to policies and best practices; leading by example
Report of weekly and monthly feedlot performance

Profile / Professional Competencies

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Experience working with cattle preferred but not required
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Willingness to learn and follow instructions
Strong work ethic, punctual, and dependable
Team-oriented and safety-conscious
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical labor
