General Description / Objective
The Cattle Buyer is responsible for managing our annual feeder cattle procurement. This position will be responsible for the daily planning and scheduling of cattle into yards and communication. The Cattle Buyer is responsible for documentation relating to procurement, outside grow yards and pasture agreements.

This role is also responsible for expanding and executing pasture agreements while building new supplier relationships.
Roles and Tasks
  • Buy feeder cattle.
  • Oversee logistics, scheduling of cattle into yards and communicating with locations.
  • Assists Accounting in resolving purchase/billing discrepancies, yards and other departments in expediting, scheduling, contracts, and specifications.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with a reliable and effective base of qualified suppliers.
  • Effectively resolve supplier pricing, quality and/or delivery issues, advising management of market conditions and supply risk.
  • Supervises the flow, recording, and processing of all purchasing documents. Calculates purchases to the most economical advantages to the Company.
  • Input hedge orders.
  • Bi-weekly Feedyard visits to build relationships, evaluate recent cattle purchases, and resolve purchase discrepancies.
  • Negotiates discounts, schedules and terms of payment.
  • Effectively evaluation cattle performance and analyze closeouts to include recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain and grow our beef on dairy program
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Profile / Professional Competencies
Education Requirements:
  • BA or BS in Agriculture related field or equivalent experience
Specific Knowledge / Experience:
  • 5 years Cattle Buying experience
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • Possess personal qualities of integrity and credibility
  • Ability to travel
